John DiBella (Eastchester, NY) flopped a set on the last hand against top two pair to win the $700 No Limit event, good for $36,870. This is his first Borgata Open title, even though he has had several cashes and final tables here previously. The real estate investor had to cut the post-game interview short as he bought into today's $1k SixMax and was being blinded off.
DiBella was lucky to get heads-up. When three-handed play began, he had only 300k and was the short stack looking across the felt at two stacks of 1 million plus. He continued to grind and caught a double-up from third-place finisher Joe Liberta (Berlin, NJ) when his AJ held up against Liberta's A9.
Liberta busted out soon after, running A7 into David Johnston's AQ. He picked up $11,675 for third place. Liberta was looking for his second Borgata Open title today to go with his win in the 2011 BPO $350 Deep Stack No Limit event ($49k), but came up short.
Second place and $20,279 went to David Johnston (Somerspoint, NJ). David started day two dead last in chips among the final eight players. He caught a double-up early with AT against KQ suited and parlayed those chips into a runner-up finish.
181 entries generated total buy-ins of $126,700. The final 18 players got a piece of the prize pool.
John DiBella won the 2012 PCA $10k Main Event in January, taking home over $1.7 million. When asked how this win compares to his PCA win in January, John replied "It's always good to win".
