Event 9 Recap

$350 + 50 Pot Limit Omaha

Relentless aggression was the key for Bruce Yamron (Naples, FL) in winning the Pot Limit Omaha event, $6,298, and his first Borgata Open trophy.  "I got unlucky, but I stayed aggressive" he explained.  "Then I got lucky to get back in it.

He's referring to a big hand against third-place finisher Roger Souse (Durham, NC).  Yamron had his opponent all-in and drawing thin to a gutshot, which Souse caught on the river to survive and double up.  Yamron battled back and eventually had Souse all-in and drawing dead to a chop, which didn't happen.

Roger Souse drove seven hours from his home in North Carolina and arrived Monday just five minutes before registration closed.  At the end, he said "I was so tired I couldn't see the cards".  Souse finished third for $2,159.

Bruce Yamron got heads-up with Eddy Vataru (New York, NY) with a 3:1 chip lead, so it didn't take long to wrap it up.  Vataru got his chips in on the last hand with the best starting hand in PLO:  AAKQ double-suited.  Yamron's AT88 ran him down as the board fell J 9 6 Q K, giving Yamron a back-door Broadway straight for the win.  Vataru collected $3,418 for second place.

Total buy-ins of $18,550 were generated by the 53 entries in this event, and the final nine players earned a piece of the prize pool.

Most notable at the final table was Will 'the Thrill' Failla, (Commack, NY) who made his second final table in two days.  He finished 4th in event 1, earning $44,722.  Today he had to settle for 7th place and $900.

Another notable finish was by accomplished tournament pro Amnon Filippi (New York, NY).   He  made it to the final table of ten, but busted out in 10th place on the bubble.

Bruce Yamron has numerous cashes and final tables here at Borgata and has one cash already in this series.  He finished 78th in event 1 for $1,280.  He'll be away for a few days, but he'll be back to play in the Championship event, which begins Sunday, November 18th.
