Event 4 Recap

$500 + $60 + $200 Bounty NL (Re-Entry)

Jedial Pires (Stone Harbor, NJ) bulldozed his way through the tournament with 17 bounties, but
the construction company owner hit a rock of a player in poker pro Matt Iles (Atco, NJ) when he got heads up.

On the final hand, Iles' A J eliminated Pires' K Q♠ when an ace hit the flop.

"Finally," said Iles who won $33,673 and the Borgata Fall Poker Open trophy. "I've played in 20 Borgata series without a win."

Prior to the elimination, Iles pocket queens survived Pires missed flush draw to take control of heads up play.

"It's okay," said Pires, who added $19,845 to his part time poker bankroll.  "He got a couple of good hands at the end."

Pires was on a roll the entire two-day tournament, seizing the chip lead before the Day 1 dinner break, and was in contention the entire way.  In contrast, Iles was slow and steady and on the brink of elimination when he got a much needed double-up at the final table when he was down to ten big blinds.

15 players returned for Day 2 and when the final table began, Pires knocked out five of the first six players as he totaled $3,400 in bounties throughout the tournament. But it was Iles who got the knockouts that mattered most, the final two.

Three-handed play began with Iles, Pires and Cherish Andrews all relatively even in chips, but Pires once again extended his lead.  That left the other two player dead even in chips at 750k, and when Iles knocked Andrews out in third place it got him within striking distance to control heads up play.

The tournament began with 248 entries, who put up a total buy-in of $124,000.

Players who made the money included WSOP bracelet holder Mike "Little Man" Sica (26th), 2012 WSOP Main Event 20th place finisher Paul Volpe (23rd), and Borgata regulars Mike Dentale (18th), Brian Woods (13th) and Mike Melkersen (11th).

Both Iles and Pires are Borgata regulars who are looking forward to playing in the Championship event. Pires focuses a lot of his play in cash games, while Iles is thrilled to add this Borgata win to his resume that includes more than $200,000 in career tournament earnings.
